Clarinet Lessons - Asynchronously

I'm starting clarinet and piano lessons online! But my lessons are going to be different than most others. They will be one-on-one lessons, like most others. You'll get feedback on your playing in real-time, like most others. But it just wont happen at the same time.

What does that mean?

You send me a video of the things you are working on.

I watch your video at a later time, provide real-time feedback on your work.

Then I send my response back to you.

Why would this be a good thing?

On Your Own Time

Some students, especially band students, are just so busy all the time and can't make it to a regular, weekly lesson planned at the same time each week. Whenever you end up with time, you can record your video, and you can watch my response any time you have.

Be at Your Best

When you do live lessons, you play as you are, but you used to be so much better in your practice each week, RIGHT?! With asynchronous lessons, you put your best foot forward with your best videos you choose to send to me. I'll see you the way you want to be seen, not how you happen to be showing up at your weekly, in person, lessons.

Also, in my experience teaching high school band, when you have students film themselves to send in as homework, they end up practicing a lot more than they normally would performing in person for the teacher. The students want to look good in the video so they practice, but they also film themselves, listen back to the video, and then end up recording a few more times, to get a good shot of themselves... This ends up being accidental practice!

Use it as a Practice Tool

In a not-live lesson, you can speed up or fast forward through the parts that you have heard before. You can also slow the video down in order to really see and hear what I'm doing and also play along with me! You can re-play the video as much as you like and use the video-lessons as a practice tool for yourself and not just a checkpoint in a week's worth of self-motivated practice.
